Terminator 2: Judgment Day

137 Minutes | 1991 | English | Tri-Star Pictures | James Cameron | M

Written by: James Cameron, William Wisher

Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Robert Patrick, Edward Furlong

Picking up a decade after the events of 1984's The Terminator, a teenager destined to be the leader of the human resistance must team up with the enemy to take on a new foe - a liquid metal Terminator.

I had to start with this movie - it is my favourite of all time!

Widely believed to be one of the best sequels of all time, Terminator 2: Judgment Day is big in every sense of the word - big stars, big action sequences and big, ground-breaking effects (which still stand up today). John Connor (Edward Furlong, in his screen debut), fated to be the leader of the human resistance against the machines, teams up with a T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) much to the horror of his mother Sarah (Linda Hamilton) against the hi-tech T-1000 (Robert Patrick) who has been sent to eliminate him to ensure the machines' superiority.

The occasional humour, the performances, story and direction are all perfect here. Being of a similar age to the character of John when this was released, it changed the way I looked at movies.

Watch for Linda Hamilton's twin sister Leslie in practical effect sequences as 'the second Sarah'.

It is also definitely worth watching the director's cut - it doesn't actually add anything to the story so feel free to miss it, but it DOES add to the heart of the movie and gives a greater understanding of motivations/scenes.

*I have seen this movie so many times that I have not watched it again to write this review - I could recite it word for word without the movie being on so have written from memory :)
