Suffering a rare blood disease, a brilliant doctor resorts to an extreme 'cure' for himself and other sufferers, especially his best friend. His radical treatment releases a dangerous evil.
Look, I didn't hate this movie. Is it great? No. Did it deserve all of the hate it received? Also no. Jared Leto gives a quietly anguished performance as the desperate doctor, and Matt Smith is having the time of his life here in the role of Milo/Lucien. Adria Arjona is really given nothing to do in the role of Martine, but she and Leto winning the Razzies for Worst Actor and Supporting Actress is a bit much! I think everyone's minds were made up to loathe this movie before they even walked into the theatres. The memes are still pretty funny though :)
The effects are adequate, the story interesting and the adaptation quite good. Perhaps it could be accused of taking itself a bit too seriously. 'A new Marvel legend'?
All in all, if you go into this with no preconceptions and no prejudices, you could have a fun time.
Watch for two mid-credits scenes, which do raise more questions than they answer.
